Halloween Treat Bags

I love doing all the little things around the holidays which make it extra fun with the kiddos. They love giving their friends some treats for Halloween, but we are no longer allowed to bring in food treats due to allergies. If your kids like doing the same thing, here is a quick idea that you still have time for that will be fun to do and fun to give out. (These are also great for other holidays or celebrating bdays in the classroom).

The last few years we have created treat bags for their school friends filled with non-food treats like boucy balls, spider rings, pencils, notepads, bubbles etc. With multiple kids, making treat bags for over 40 kids can get expensive. But by going to a store where they sell these items in bulk like Target and the Dollar Store, you can give out cute treats without blowing your budget!

This year we chose Target and I let the kids pick out what they wanted to fill their bags with. I find that this activity allows the kids to feel part of the process and make the decisions, but I know it won’t end up costing me an arm and a leg!

I usually find these deals in the Target dollar section up in the front of the store or in the back corner where they set up their Halloween destination with candy, decor, etc. Here are the treats they picked out for this year as well as stickers to decorate the name tags (see below).

What’s also great about this project, is that the kids can basically do all the steps themselves. So they are empowered to figure things out but also feel a sense of accomplishment when they are done and pride when they hand out the bags to their friends.

First step is we start with making the name tags for each friend. We use a paper cutter to cut card stock into squares or rectangles. Then we use a single hole punch to punch a hole in the top corner. This is where we will attach the name tag to the gift bag.

Next comes decorating the name tags. This is by far my kid’s favorite step since I let them have free reign over however they want to decorate them. They use stickers, markers- whatever they think will look the best! My son can now write so he labels each tag with a friend’s name and then puts his name on the other side. My daughter isn’t able to fully write yet so I let her decorate one side and then I write From V on the other side.

Then comes the fun step of stuffing the bags! We separate each treat into a pile and the kids make sure there is one of each thing in each bag.

Final step is closing the bags. This is where the grownup may need to help a little. I use the twist tie to close the bag as well as attach the name tag. Loop the twish tie through the hole on the name tag. Then bunch the top of the goodie bag together, wrap the twist tie around the bag, and twist a few times. The bag should be secure and you should still be able to see the name on the tag. Voila! Here is the final product!

Hope you found this helpful and enjoy making treat bags with your own kiddos.

Happy Halloween!! xo, Liz

Back to School – pbk Backpacks and Lunch Boxes

I can’t believe some schools are already heading back to school! My niece and nephew are starting in a week in FL, but I know some schools in GA and AZ have already gone back!

We still have a few weeks left of summer here in the Northeast. My son won’t start 2nd grade till late August. But I have to start getting my ducks in a row sooner than later so I’m not super stressed out right before school starts.

First thing done off my list- his new backpack and lunch box from Pottery Barn Kids!

We got 2 years out of his last backpack (kindergarten and 1st grade). I was so impressed how well his last style held up. He could have used it again this year, it is still in great shape! But he has grown so much, he needs the next size. So we’ll be handing down his last one to his little sister.

Each year though, he needs a new lunch box. I don’t know what they do with them each day at school, but by the end of the school year, the lunch boxes are destroyed and so gross inside!

So I let my son pick out his new favorite styles to be in style in school year. Here he is showing off his new items and he can’t wait to use them on his first day.

All backpacks and lunch boxes are on sale and they ship free! I highly recommend them- a little more than some of the other stores, but based on all the wear and tear he has given them in the past, and how well they have held up, I think they are worth it!

Embroidered Top from Amazon

This is the first season I’ve shopped for apparel and fashion items on Amazon and I’m definitely on the Amazon bandwagon! This embroidered blouse is one of my favorite items I’ve picked up so far. The bright embroidery pattern is perfect for summer. The ruffle sleeves give a feminine look to the blouse. And the looser fit will be extra comfortable in the warmer weather. This top will be a show stopper for both casual looks or if you want to be a little more dressed up with jeans, heels, or wedges. I’m really loving both looks with my white denim, though it would also pair great with regular denim or colored shorts or pants. (commission links)

Sleeveless Embroidered Pom Pom Blouse– Available in 5 colors and less than $23! I followed the sizing recommendation to size up one size, and it was definitely the right choice. I bought a size medium when I normally wear a small.

Other items shown:

White Denim Shorts– runs tts

Rose Gold Footbed Sandals– less than $23

White Denim Skinny Jeans

Navy Canvas Espadrille Wedges

Tinted Lip Balm with SPF

Hey there!! Colleen here!! Recently my cousin recommended I try and tell you all about the Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm. Well, I did and used it everyday on my vacation. The verdict? I loved it. I suffer from permanent dry, peeling lips. I use lip balm every day and then layer a lip gloss over it. This can become thick and sticky feeling, which I hate.

Shop it here!

This product softens your lips as soon as you put it on. And they stay this way even after the lip balm wears off. This best part is that they offer it with tints, so you can add color to your lips without all layering. There are about 6 colors to choose from and they are truly just a tint, not a solid color. Very subtle. In addition to all that it has SPF 20, so your lips are always protected from the sun! This has now been added to my daily routine!

Loft 50% off Summer Favorites

A few weeks ago, I stopped by my local loft for a try-on session and found some amazing styles of dresses and even a jumpsuit that I loved!

Over the years, I have relied on Loft for great quality dresses. Casual, dress-up, short, long, they have them all!

This season’s styles are no exception to offering great prints, colors and details that are right on trend. They also come in many different sizing options in regular, petite and plus sizes.

Right now, they are having a 50% off Summer Favorites sale and some of my favorite dresses that I tried on are included.

Below are my favorites, including the jumpsuit. All styles are perfect for the summer. We still have a lot of warm weather to enjoy and now we can look great while spending less!

All styles fit tts. I am wearing a size Small or size 4 in all styles. The first picture, the stripe button down, was the only style I maybe could have sized down 1 size in (due to me being a little smaller in the bust area 🙂 )

There are also some other great deals included in this sale (tops, bottoms, accessories etc) so check out all the items here (affiliate links)

Summer KidPik Life Saver!

For those of you who have been following us, you know my love for Kidpik for my daughter. For those who are new to Rockstar Moms, well you are in for a treat!

In an effort to help make our very busy Mom lives as easy as I can, Knowing that every season my Isabella will be receiving this box full of super fun fashion, shoes, and accessories is a life saver. I don’t always have the time to keep up with her growth spirts and who doesn’t love a good subscription box!?  The fun and suspense of seeing what’s inside!

When we found Kidpik, a subscription box for girls sizes 4-16, we just HAD to try it. We have been subscribing to Kidpik now for about 3 years and absolutely love it!  It is so much fun for her to open and know that if she loves the items she can keep them and if she does not, well then, they can be returned with no obligation to anything. Best part is the shipping is free and free for the returns too!

First, let’s start with how Kidpik works:

When you go to the Kidpik site you set up an account.  You will need to enter things, such as, address, credit card info, when you would like to receive your picks.  You can receive them as little as once per year or as often as 1 per month! Then your daughter will get to set up her profile (this is the fun part).  She will be able to control telling Kidpik what her favorite colors are, rank how “sparkly” she is, choose from pre-set outfits what she likes the best, and also what stores she likes to shop at.  This helps them choose the picks for her boxes that fit her style. She will need to update this profile for each season and you just need to remember to update her sizes as she grows!

It is very important to note that there is zero obligation to keep anything you receive in your box.  There are also no shipping fees to receive or return. You can keep everything, pick and choose what you want to keep , or send it all back!

In an average box you will receive on 7 items, that make about 4-5 outfits.  This may include dresses, skirts, pants, tops, shoes, accessories, and always a “Gift for you” that you can keep even if you send everything else back.

The box will arrive looking like this:

It will be addressed to your daughter.  It is sooooo exciting for Isabella when she comes home from school and sees this box at our door step!

When she opens the box everything is wrapped up beautifully and some items are in these amazing reusable drawstring bags (which I use when we travel for toiletries or shoes).

Isabella’s box came with a pair of cut off denim shorts, a T-shirt , 1 skirt, 1 dress, a bathing suit (Bella’s fab item), pair of ADORABLE sandals, a belt bag and her “gift” of a super secure LOVE bracelet or she choose to wear it as an anklet. In the past the “gift” has been patches, pins, hair ties, or even jewelry. Oh! Another super fun item that came in this box is this magazine! It is full of articles, games, puzzles, and beauty diy’s.

Her try on session! Needless to say she is keeping everything, again!!

Now for the details:

The price points for this box ranged from $9.99 for the Belt bag to $29.50 for the dress.  A very important note is that if you keep everything you get 30% off the total purchase, and this is for every box.  So to keep this entire box will be $102. We received 7 items so that is $14.57 per item, on average.

Another very important note is that if you do not want to keep all the items but, sometimes, it is less expensive to buy everything and get the 30% off.  You can donate the items you do not want to keep by paying for everything, sending back the item you do not want to keep in the pre-paid shipment bag and Kidpik will donate the items to girls in need in the community around them.

From what I have seen so far in the 3 years we have been receiving boxes is that this company delivers quality clothing at a great value and cares about the community around them.

Oh!! One more very important note is that the actual boxes are great to reuse for absolutely anything.  Isabella uses them to store her dolls, shopkins, play school supplies……the options are endless!😁
